Further, cost-wise, Office 365 is more affordable than Lotus Notes and comes with various subscription plans.

Since Lotus Notes is an old technology, invading privacy is much easier for hackers. So, from a security point of view, Office 365 is more secure than Lotus Notes.

Above all, it’s a very complex task to manage the Lotus Notes platform. And, since the technology is out of date, finding experts who can understand & maintain Lotus Notes is nearly impossible. And, that’s where Office 365 wins over Lotus Notes, cause managing this cloud platform is much easier.

  • Post results under the People, Mail-In Databases, and Logs views. You can either create these reports manually or on a scheduled basis as per your requirements.

Step 1. Take a backup of Lotus Notes NSF files

The primary step is to create a backup of all existing users’ mailboxes that are stored as NSF files. This step is necessary before migration to avoid data loss, which may occur due to technical glitches during the transfer procedure. So, it’s recommended to create Lotus Notes archives for backup.

Step 2. Create new mailboxes for existing profiles

After creating backup files, the next step is to create new mailboxes for every user with an existing profile in the Lotus Notes desktop email client.

Step 3. Activate IMAP TCP/IP Port for all users

Next, you need to enable IMAP for all users. The steps for activating the IMAP are as follows.

  1. Open Domino Administrator in IBM Notes on your PC.
  2. Next, go to the Configuration tab.
  3. After that, open the Server document for the server that runs the IMAP service.
  4. Then, follow the order and click on the tabs  Ports – Internet Ports – Mail tab simultaneously.

  • In case the Lotus Notes email client is disabled, it will not permit an IMAP connection.
  • If the IMAP Connector restricts the migration of calendar entries, then you must perform it manually.
  • Further, manually creating calendar entries takes more time and slows the transfer process.
  • When you use of IMAP protocol for the migration process, it moves only online data to Office 365.
  • Also, there’s a limitation on the size i.e. the IMAP Connector can move emails of a maximum of 1 GB size.
  • Moreover, the process involves applying various filters that are not cost-effective and the procedure of applying those is complex.

These limitations make the manual methods less reliable as compared to the automated method. Let’s get familiar with the automated method.
